Our Live lessons along with our curriculum mapping system, based on one developed at MIT, is designed to take each child on a journey of personal mastery, where they advance at their own deliberate or accelerated pace.

We are committed to guiding your child through an educational adventure of self-discovery and subject mastery. Our goal is to help them quickly excel in areas of interest and strength, and progress steadily in areas where they need more time and focused attention to succeed.

Meet the Principal Colin Northmore

Colin joined ADvTECH in 2019 as the principal of Abbotts College Johannesburg South where he has proven himself as an innovative and well-liked Principal. Colin started his teaching career in 1987 after graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Wits University. Over the next 12 years, he moved through the ranks becoming a Head of English and Deputy Principal before leaving to work as a consultant at the Catholic Institute of Education.


Colin joined ADvTECH in 2019 as the principal of Abbotts College Johannesburg South where he has proven himself as an innovative and well-liked Principal. Colin started his teaching career in 1987 after graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Wits University. Over the next 12 years, he moved through the ranks becoming a Head of English and Deputy Principal before leaving to work as a consultant at the Catholic Institute of Education.

During his time at the Institute, he was the Deputy Director of the Centre for School Quality and Improvement where he worked mostly in township and peri-urban schools developing leadership programmes. In this time, he was trained by the Scottish school inspectorate and worked to develop an Independent school quality assurance framework. He also wrote unit standards for the Matthew Goniwe leadership school. While at the Institute, he completed his Bachelor of Education honours and Masters in Education degrees also at Wits.

In 2003 Colin become the Executive Head of Sacred Heart College. He drove the technological transformation of this traditional school, ensuring that they were the first school in South Africa to use iPads and 3D printers. Colin was a sought-after conference speaker giving talks on the implementation of technology in classrooms, the maker movement and school discipline. In 2008 Colin founded the Three2six refugee education programme at Sacred Heart which has provided emergency education, clothing and feeding to primary school refugee children for over 11 years.

Colin was recognized for his expertise in this area and was invited to give talks at New York University, The Harvard Graduate school of Education (Where he also completed two certificate courses) and in various European countries including Germany, Italy, England, Holland, Scotland and Spain. Colin also taught a course on Pedagogy at Wits University, School of Education to PGCE students. Last year he was invited to give a talk at a side event at the United Nations in New York. In December the project was awarded 2nd place at the prestigious Reimagine Education awards in London.

Colin is passionate about pursuing the development of an approach to education that personalizes the learning experience for each student. He believes that the perfect storm of cognitive science, technology and educational theory will redefine teaching and learning in the next decade.
