FET Phase

(Grade 10-11)

In the FET Phase (Grade 10-12), students are preparing for the possible leap into post-matric with the prospect

to delve directly into the job market or start their own venture also being part of the consideration mix.

During their years in the FET, high school students can align their subject choices as the core foundations

of what will determine their choice of Tertiary studies or occupation.

It is a decision that should not be taken likely and thorough investigation must go into the

requirements for their possible chosen tertiary courses so that they take the required

subjects and meet the minimum admission requirements.

It is at the high school phase that we focus on subject choices that are aligned

to the learner’s career interests in Art, Commerce, Humanities and Sciences.

Our Tailored Approach.

A child’s self-worth and accomplishments should not be measured against artificial conventions.

By not feeling rushed to keep up with the rest of the class, and not feeling bored or held back when they are keen to move faster, we give your child the chance to claim their ground through their own achievements. This reduces the anxiety associated with the usual one-size-fits-all model of high schooling.

Subjects

We pride ourselves in our unique and comprehensive subject offering. In Grade 10, high school students will take 8 compulsory subjects, which allows them to experience a wider range of subjects than they would normally be able to. When they come to the end of Grade 10, they will be allowed to drop one of their weaker choice subjects and continue with 7 subjects (as per the requirement for the IEB National Senior Certificate) or they may choose to continue taking the subject at an additional charge.

  • AP Science
  • AP English

What are Advanced Programme courses?

The AP's are designed for Grade 12 learners to provide academically gifted Evolvees with the opportunity of studying these subjects in greater depth. It also provides schools with an opportunity to encourage self-study skills in learners. The Advanced Programmes are designed to develop independent and critical thinking skills, thus preparing Evolvees for tertiary studies.

In Mathematics and Physics, preparation is in the form of exposure to concepts and branches that are part and parcel of the first year of university-level studies in Mathematics, Physics and related courses. The emphasis is on subject content and helping Evolvees develop a fundamental understanding of advanced mathematical and scientific concepts.

By contrast, the design of the Advanced Programme in English is to encourage Evolvees to develop a strong sense of personal voice, both in relation to the texts they have studied and the questions they must respond to. The ability to interrogate ideas and formulate responses across various texts is critical in the Evolvee's development. This is encouraged by active involvement in tutorial-style discussions following their independent reading of the texts. The programme's design is to promote independent study and build confidence through the freedom to articulate opinions, defend them and be able to interrogate the opinions of others. Key traits such as independent thinking and self-discipline are developed and will sustain learners as they advance their studies.

Assessment

Assessment takes place continuously and in various ways.

We can also monitor progress in the proficiency level of each Evolvee on our mapped Learning Management System. The Mastery of Items is mapped to the CAPS curriculum to have a view of how your child is progressing against the Country's progression model and facilitate reintegration into the mainstream schooling system should that ever be desired. At the end of Grade 12, our Evolvees will write the IEB exit exam.

Grade 10

To systematically prepare our Evolveesfor their final year of formal assessments, they will write tests and exams in Grade 10. These tests and exams will be done online and will be monitored through our proctoring system that monitors eye movement, typing speed and restricts Evolvees from accessing other files, programmes and websites while completing their tests and exams.

Grade 11

In Grade 11, Evolvees will complete online assessments, tests and exams throughout the year and will, in addition, complete their final exam at a designated exam centre.

Grade 12 – Phasing in in 2023

At the end of Grade 12, our Evolvees will complete the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) exam to obtain their National Senior Certificate (NSC). Please note that our Evolvees have to complete the relevant practical and written exams at a designated exam centre.

Practical Exams

Please note that certain FET subjects require a practical assessment as it forms part of the IEB (or is it CAPS) assessment framework. Please note that this is subject dependent and that we will inform our Evolvees should they need to complete them at a designated exam centre.
