Teachers

At Evolve Online School, our Teachers are seasoned educators who take special care to help your child succeed.

Our Teachers are qualified educators who take special care to make sure that your child progresses through their education journey. During the Foundation Phase we practice ‘looping’. This means that the same activators will stay with your child for more than one year to facilitate a deeper relationship and understanding of their unique needs.

Foundation Phase (Grade R-3)

Empowering students through Digital Mastery

Our foundation phase is for students from Grade R to 3. We understand how important this phase is in laying the basics for all future learning. Our phased approach allows for time to be spent on any topics or subjects your child might be struggling with and also lets them explore and quickly progress in areas of interest and natural ability.

Intermediate Phase (Grade 4-6)

Students in the Intermediate Phase of primary school continue to develop their Literacy, Digital and Mathematical mastery. They also start a new subject called IDEAS.

Students from Grades 4 to 6 fall within the Intermediate phase of primary school. Our tailored approach to online primary schooling allows students to spend time on subjects they struggle with, and master topics faster in areas of interest and natural ability.

Senior Phase (Grade 7-9)

Senior Phase students continue with the same subjects in high school as they did in Intermediate Phase, but with a greater emphasis on using what they absorbed in Primary school to become independent learners.

Students from Grades 7 to 9 fall within the senior phase. Our tailored approach allows students to spend time on subjects they struggle, and progress faster in areas of interest and natural ability.

FET Phase
(Grade 10-12)

We don't believe that a child should measure their self-worth and accomplishments against artificial conventions.

Therefore we allow our Evolvees to work at their own pace at a level they are comfortable with to give your child the opportunity to claim their ground through their own achievements.

Cambridge Curriculum

Upper Primary

Ages 8 to 11 (Grades/Stage 4 to 6)

Cambridge Primary starts learners on an exciting educational journey. Typically for 5 to 11 year olds, it provides a strong foundation for students at the beginning of their schooling before progressing through the Cambridge Pathway in an age-appropriate way.

Online Homeschool Curriculum

Evolve Online School’s Homeschool curriculum follows the:

CAPS (Government) curriculum where students will write the IEB (Independent Examination Board) National Senior Certificate at the end of Grade 12.
The Cambridge International curriculum, where students will write the IGCSE 1 and 2 as well as AS examinations.

Integrated Subjects

Our Online School teachers have taken the CAPS curriculum and looked for overlaps and themes using a project-based approach. Our Learning teachers have combined many subjects to create a single subject called IDEAS which covers all the CAPS criteria in one.

All subjects are integrated and are taught in themes - this helps to merge similar skills and find the links between the different subjects.

Suitable for Online and Homeschool Students

Our curriculum is more suited for Online schooling or Homeschool students as we have created courses suited to the students' needs. There are very clear guidelines of what needs to be done in the week, and what will be done during the online sessions with their teachers. All lessons are recorded, so should you miss a session, it is easy to catch up – so the school can fit around your life and not the other way around.

Crosslinks Mapping System

The Crosslinks mapping system was developed by the Aeronautical Engineering Department at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) as a teaching approach to help students master concepts easier and enhance the depth of their understanding of concepts.

Our school has used this crosslinks mapping system in setting up our IEB and Cambridge online homeschool curriculum to help children develop mastery of the topics. The Online Education we provide ensures that children develop a deeper understanding of what they are learning and it is age-appropriately tailored. This ensures that students do not move on to the next grade with gaps in their knowledge. Based on the Crosslinks methodology we allow our students multiple attempts at completing tasks as this allows them to deepen their understanding of concepts.

We, therefore, have a distinct focus on mastery vs marks, and while we do equip our students to prepare for their matric examination at the end of Grade 12 for them to achieve an IEB National Senior Certificate and Cambridge AS Levels, we know that with a more in-depth understanding and mastery of concepts they will be better equipped to perform during these examinations.
